A Comparative Study of University Students' and Seminary Students' Attitudes toward the Concept of Freedom and Its Components

Abstract
this study aims to conduct a comparative analysis of attitudes toward freedom, its dimensions, and its components among university students and seminary students, representing these two intellectual and political groups. The research employs a survey method, with the statistical population consisting of students from the University of Tehran and seminary students from Qom’s religious schools. The sample size is 480, equally divided between the two groups. The sampling method is simple random, and data collection was conducted using a researcher-designed questionnaire. The findings indicate that among the five dimensions of freedom (freedom of thought, belief, expression, political freedom, and social freedom), university students ranked freedom of belief, freedom of expression, freedom of thought, social freedom, and political freedom in descending order of importance. In contrast, seminary students prioritized freedom of thought, freedom of belief, freedom of expression, political freedom, and social freedom, respectively. The study's findings reveal significant differences in the attitudes of university students and seminary students toward freedom and its components, with statistically significant differences across all dimensions. The high effect size in all examined aspects further underscores the significance of the observed differences between the two groups. The study concludes that intellectual engagement and social convergence between these two social groups can play a crucial role in reducing tensions and conflicts in the country’s socio-political sphere.
